Chia-Wei Lin wins the 3rd edition of Berlin International Guitar Competition, this beeing the fourth international prize won by the Taiwanese guitarist this year.

The Berlin International Guitar Competition finished on October 17, having 20 contestants from 10 countries. The winners are:

  • First prize: Chia-Wei Lin (Taiwan)
  • Second prize: Bilodid Denys (Ukraine)
  • Third prize: Claire Sananikone (France)

The 22 years old guitarist, Chia-Wei Lin, was admitted to the Koblenz Conservatory last year and became a student of Hubert Kaeppel. This year he won other three important guitar competitions: in Veria, Greece in April; in Nürtingen, Germany in July; and in Vienna, Austria (Karl Scheit Competition) earlier this month. His 2010 record also includes the second prize in Iserlohn and third prize in Koblenz Competition.

The Jan Edmund Jurkowski Memorial Competition was held from October 9th to October 16th 2010 in Warsaw, Poland. The winner is Li Xingye from China.

Li Xingye won the first prize of the competition, 4.500 EUR, a Pavlos Gypas concert guitar, recording and edition of a CD and concerts in Poland and Czech Republic (Kutna Hora). The prizes are:

  • First prize: Li Xingye (China)
  • Second prize: Tomasz Kandulski (Poland)
  • Third Prize: Marko Topchii (Ukraine)
  • Fourth place: Noriyuki Masuda (Japan)

The jury: Marcin Dylla (Poland, chairman), Beata Będkowska - Huang (Poland), Adam Giska (Poland), Lynn Mc Grath (USA), Hubert Käppel (Germany), Stephen Mattingly (USA), Marek Nosal (Poland), Paolo Pegoraro (Italy), Wojciech Świtała (Poland), Janina Mikołajczak (Poland, secretary).

In the second stage of the competition participated 12 guitarists:

  • Thomas Fechner (Poland)
  • Tomasz Grzybowski (Poland)
  • Kandulski Tomasz (Poland)
  • Klyushin Pavel (Russia)
  • Alexander Knapek (Poland)

The competition finished on October 2, in Allesandria, Italy. Anabel Montesinos won the first prize: €6000 competition prize, €2500 Luciano Ghione prize and €4500 Naxos Contract award.

The 3 finalists were: Kyu-Hee Park (Villa Lobos concerto), Sdrjan Bulat and Anabel Montesinos (C. Tedesco Concerto in RE).
And the prizes:

  • First prize: Anabel Montesinos
  • Second prize: Sdrjan Bulat
  • Third prize: Kyu-Hee Park

According to Micaela Pittaluga, there were 36 candidates enrolled in the competition, 28 of them in the first round and 7 passed to the semifinals:

  • M. Daniela Rossi

Chia-Wei Lin (Taiwan) is the laureate of the Karl Scheit Competition, winning €7.500 and a €7.500 concert guitar made by Bernd Holzgruber.

Prizes:

  • Second prize: Ian Watt (Great Britain)
  • Third prize: Vojin Kocic (Serbia)
  • Special Prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work by 1945: George Stetler (Austria)
  • Special prize for best classical interpretation of a classical work: Vojin Kocic (Serbia)
